GAS (LPG for Boats)

We are Gas Safe registered to carry out all LPG gas work relating to boats. That includes design and installation of complete systems, appliance repairs and servicing, landlords safety checks for hire boats, safety checks for your own peace of mind or for insurance as well as testing gas systems for your Boat Safety examination (see notes below about BSS gas testing). Gas testing for Boat Safety Scheme and Bubble testers

I have included this particular service as a separate item as I get asked about it all the time. Specifically, "can you fit a bubble tester on my boat?". In short the answer is yes! However, I find customers are rarely made aware of the full story with bubble testers. They are great for self testing your system so that you as an end user can periodically check for leaks. They also enable Boat Safety Scheme examiners (who are not Gas Safe registered) to test your gas system for your BSS examination if you are a live-aboard boater. Unfortunately, they do not show any other information than if there is a leak. A full gas check by a Gas Safe registered engineer will check regulator pressures which can, and often do, highlight other problems that a bubble tester will not show (such as under or over pressure regulators or gas condensate in the pipework causing fluctuating gas pressures). My advice: have a bubble tester if you want to monitor your system yourself. If not then get a Gas Engineer such as myself to test the system to get a full picture of what's going on. ELECTRICAL

We can carry out any electrical work on your boat. We can design you a complete wiring system for a new boat or change a fuse for you and anything in between! Some common jobs we undertake are inverter/ charger installations, fault finding and repairs, changing batteries and upgrading sub standard charging systems, alternator replacements, custom engine or cabin wiring looms and part/ full system installations for self builders. Cable size is always factored in to any job as under sized cable is a very common problem with DC electrics, especially on older craft. All electrical work is carried out to the latest Recreational Craft Directive requirements.

ENGINEERING

We can complete almost any mechanical task for you out on the towpath. Engine servicing and repairs (inboard or outboards), stern gear repacking, engine mounts and engine alignment, exhaust replacements, control cables as well as smaller stuff like changing fixtures and fittings and adding labels for BSS requirements. Not everything is listed so just contact us with your specific requirements.

PLUMBING

Whether it's a full installation on a new build or sail-away shell, changing a water or shower pump or just general repairs, we can help you. Just give us a call!

HEATING

We have experience with all forms of narrowboat heating systems. We are well versed with diesel fueled water heaters having been trained by Eberspacher to install and service their Hydronic units as well as having many years experience with Webasto and Mikuni units too. We have also installed and serviced pressure jet diesel systems for example the Kabola compact 7 and Hurricane heaters. Of course as gas safe registered engineers we can also fit Alde compact gas boilers. Finally, we have the classic solid fuel setup favoured by so many boaters. We pride ourselves on our solid fuel stove installations focusing on both safety and style. All of our solid fuel installations conform to the latest codes of practice for boat installations.

FABRICATION

We have fabrication facilities for mild steel at our base workshop. We can repair/ fabricate (and design if required) small scale steel projects such as brackets, pigeon boxes, single skin flue pipes, industrial style furniture and more. Please inquire with your specific requirements.
